SDRSales Development Representative Job Description
What does a Sales Representative Development do?
A Sales Development Representative, also known as an SDR, BDR, or ADR, is mainly responsible for finding and qualifying new potential selling opportunities (leads) in an assigned territory and passing these off to the Account Executive to close the deal. Sales Development Representatives find and develop these leads by prospecting into their territory via cold calls, cold emails, and social media (LinkedIn).
SDR’s are generally measured on the number of qualified meetings or leads they find per month or quarter. Some SDR’s might also be measured on the potential revenue of the lead and whether the lead actually results in revenue. Attainment goals vary by company, account size, and location.
Entry Level SDR’s might only be responsible for inbound leads, whereas experienced SDR’s (6+ months experience) will be responsible for the outbound prospecting.
A Sales Development Representative will work with anywhere from 1-5 Account Executives that they are required to set qualified meetings with potential prospects for. Some SDR’s might also work with a Sales Engineer.
A typical day for a Sales Development Representative will consist of making anywhere from 20-100 interactions (cold calls, cold emails, or LinkedIn messages) per day (depending on the company). SDR’s will also build out lists, host meetings with their Account Executive, and update the latest status of their opportunities into the CRM.
